From my experience leadership transition is sort of the invisible elephant in the room. It’s integral to the success of the process but it so often assumed to be present rather than considered something to focus on. Everyone involved in a family business knows that their long term success – as defined by the organization’s continuation long after the current managing generation is gone, is usually the toughest thing to achieve and that the odds are all stacked against them. Leadership transition is the key.
